Thomas Chamberlain

Photographer

I primarily photograph people. I enjoy shooting musicians on and off stage, portraits on and off location, nature, and street photography.

I love the process of shooting film. It depends on the assignment weather I shoot film or digital or even both. My goal is to create the image so the viewer doesn’t even wonder if I shot it on film or with digital capture. I just need to create beautiful images.

I was sixteen when a friend gave me a Yashica FX3 35mm SLR, preloaded with a roll of Kodak Gold 100 film. I didn’t know how that thing worked, how the meter worked, or even just how to wind the film. I fumbled through that first roll of film, I took it to the drug store to be processed. The images were terribly over and under exposed. I was hooked, and I could hardly wait to get the second roll of film into the camera. I’ve heard so many photographers tell that same story. It’s how we all began. Like so many others, I was introduced to the something special with the help and generosity of other photographers.

I went off the Art School and really enjoyed my time there, my instructors were top notch. The technical knowledge and experience I gained in art school has served me well, but my real artistic side has taken years to develop. My photographic pursuits keep me chasing many types of classic cameras and alternative photography. This has become a very large part of my photographic life. Pinhole, large and medium formats, Polaroid, plastic and toy cameras, are important tools for me to get the image I want. Film photography is still a prominent part of my photographic style.

Tom Chamberlain, Photographer

I have known Tom since 2003, and I highly recommend Tom for photography. He photographed our wedding in 2006; he really captured the spirit, happiness and love that our wedding contained. Along with the classic wedding photos, Tom also took hundreds of casual shots that were amazing. In 2009, Tom photographed my husband to help promote his business. Tom's photos included profile pictures, as well as action shots of the model running, swimming, and biking. The pictures were amazing and really conveyed the sports emphasis my husband wanted. In 2010, Tom took amazing Christmas pictures of our 2 year old- she actually smiled and laughed for him. (No small feat!) Tom is awesome to work with; his love of photography is contagious! ~Sarah V.

Tom shoots my band And And And all the time and he is great and vary easy to work with. I highly recommend him! This guy Rules! ~Berg R.

I met Tom while working in Boulder, CO and we kept in touch since which is 4 yrs now. He is a big traveler, everytime I hear from him, he is somewhere else, also he visited me in my hometown - Prague, Czech republic. He is a great photographer, can't remember of a moment he was without camera unless somebody took it from him.. also he knows so much about it, he is the one I asked when I wanted to get better equipment myself. I recommend Tom to everyone on HipHost because he knows a lot about what he's doing, he's great with explaining stuff, smart, friendly and have tons of funny stories :) ~Jitka K.

I've known Tom for about 10 years and first met him by sharing tight quarters at a non profit we worked at in Boulder, Colorado. There, as a novice photographer, I was able to ask and learn and be amazed by Tom and not only his photographs, but also his camera collection. To say Tom is knowledgeable and passionate about photography is a terrible understatement. The chance to walk alongside him and learn from him is an opportunity not to be missed and a chance for a truly unique experience. Tom is no cookie cutter photographer. He knows the intricacies, he's studied the masters, he knows how to shoot film. His work is breathtaking, always unique and forever living up to the adage that a picture is worth a thousand words. ~Lillian K.

Tom is a true master of his craft. His attention to detail is simply amazing and his coverage of the events he shoots borders on magical. ~Mat B.

Tom has quite the eye with the shutter. I have known Tom since 2009 in his days in beautiful Boulder, CO. Tom loves bicycles, and loves walking to where he needs to go, taking photos along the way. I have never seen him go a day without taking a picture of something and working on his craft. He truly enjoys the art of photography. Many a time did he watch our puppy or join in on a party or event and I was always excited to see what photos we would see from those times. He is passionate about what he does, and will sure not disappoint. ~Kelly K.

I have known Tom for over 10 year. In that time he has worked for my business and has done personal work for me aswell. He has always been kind, helpful, funny and always professional. Tom has a unique way of explaining things in terms the general population would understand with out dumbing down the process. He is passionate about photography and you can see it in his work. My pets would give him two thumbs up if they only had thumbs. I would recommend Tom for any type of photography work. ~Lory H.

Tom is the best, hands down my favorite photographer out there. Someday, i'll get married too, and Tom will be the first I ask to come and just hang out with his Rollei and a roll of b&w. Amazing eye, amazing guy! ~Jenn V.
